Professional Biography

Dr. Darlene R. Saunders is a Master Certified Health Education Specialist and public health professional with extensive experience in community and school health, program development and management, health education, training, research and evaluation, and partnership development. She is passionate about improving health outcomes and quality of life among underserved and marginalized populations.

Dr. Saunders currently serves as Diabetes Specialist and Special Projects Manager with the African American Health Program (AAHP) of McFarland & Associates, Inc., where she leads diabetes education and health education initiatives, community engagement projects, and collaborative partnerships designed to address health disparities and advance health equity.

Previously, Dr. Saunders served in the Health & Wellness Division of the Prince George’s County Health Department, where she developed and implemented disease prevention and health promotion initiatives, cultivated community partnerships, and coordinated resources to address community health needs. Her professional experience includes working with national and local nonprofit organizations, government agencies, academic institutions, and faith-based organizations. She also holds leadership positions within her church and is actively engaged in community and faith-based service.
